Nada como el amor para devolver
la sangre al lenguaje.
La diferencia entre la playa y sus
distintas rocas y fragmentos: rígida
escritura cuneiforme y la tierna y cursiva
de las olas, el hueso y las líquidas huevas de pez, el desierto
y la ciénaga salina, como un verde empujón
que nos saca de la muerte. Las vocales, regordetas
de nuevo como labios o dedos empapados, los mismos
que se mueven por estos
blandos guijarros como por la piel. El cielo no está
ni vacío ni lejano, sino cerca
frente a tus ojos, derretido, tan cerca
que puedes degustarlo. Sabe
a sal. Lo que te acaricia
es lo mismo que acaricias.

Nothing

Nothing like love to put blood
back in the language,
the difference between the beach and its
discrete rocks & shards, a hard
cuneiform, and the tender cursive
of waves; bones & liquid fishegg, desert
& saltmarsh, a green push
out of death. The vowels plump
again like lips or soaked fingers, and the fingers
themselves move around these
softening pebbles as around skin. The sky’s
not vacant and over there but close
against your eyes, molten, so near
you can taste it. It tastes of
salt. What touches
you is what you touch.
