Retractación

"He renunciado a las hojas de té,
y esa línea torcida
en la palma de la reina
ya no me concierne.
En mi negro peregrinaje,
esta bola de cristal con agujeros lunares
se romperá antes de serme útil;
en lugar de graznar
lo que está por venir,
mis queridos cuervos han volado.

Abjuro de esos trucos visuales heladores
y de todo cuanto he enseñado
en contra de la flor en la sangre:
ni la riqueza ni la sabiduría están
por encima de la simple vena,
de la franca y directa boca.
Regresa, pues, a tu bisoña juventud
antes de que el tiempo se te acabe,
y conságrate a hacer el bien
con tus blancas manos."

‘Tea leaves I’ve given up,
And that crooked line
On the queen’s palm
Is no more my concern.
On my black pilgrimage
This moon-pocked crystal ball
Will break before it help;
Rather than croak out
What’s to come,
My darling ravens are flown.
